New Non-Motorized Trails in Morton Township

Morton Township has been developing non-motorized trails in the township over the last few years. Recent surveys have shown that trails are one of the most important and most utilized amenities supporting a safe and healthy lifestyle. We are fortunate to have a very dedicated and active Recreation Committee in Morton Township that values the importance of offering opportunities for walking/biking/hiking. One of their primary goals is to connect bike lanes beginning in Morton Township to the White Pine Trail. Since 2018 we have completed 11 miles of bike lanes and are collaborating with neighboring townships to continue the bike lanes through their townships to connect to the White Pine Trail.

We have developed two walking areas within the township. The first is Pine Grove Park located in Morton Township’s Business Park off 9 Mile Road. This location offers mowed trails on a wooded 40-acre parcel for hiking and walking as well as snowshoeing and cross-country skiing in the winter. The second is the White Pine Mecosta Loop Trail located off Franklin Street in Mecosta. This is a one-mile-long trail with a crushed Limestone base that makes is suitable for bicycles and wheelchairs. This trail was formerly the CSX Railroad. The committee has taken advantage of grant opportunities to assist with the cost in trail development.
