Job Description: As a Full-Time Firefighter at Morton Township Fire – Rescue, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safety and well-being of our community. You will be responsible for responding to emergency calls, extinguishing fires, performing rescue operations, and providing support during various emergency situations. Your bravery, dedication, and commitment to public safety will be at the heart of your daily responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Emergency Response:
    • Quickly and efficiently respond to fire, medical, and other emergency calls.
    • Assess and mitigate hazardous situations to protect lives and property.
    • Operate firefighting equipment, including hoses, ladders, and fire trucks.
    • Perform search and rescue operations in smoke-filled or hazardous environments.
  1. Fire Suppression:
    • Extinguish fires using firefighting equipment, water hoses, and chemical agents.
    • Ensure the safe evacuation of occupants from burning structures.
    • Conduct salvage operations to minimize damage to property.
  1. Medical Assistance:
    • Administer Medical first responder level response to medical emergencies
    • Provide basic first aid and CPR to individuals in need
    • Assist in medical emergencies and provide support to EMS personnel.
  1. Training and Maintenance:
    • Participate in ongoing training and drills to maintain and improve firefighting skills.
    • Inspect and maintain firefighting equipment and apparatus.
    • Stay up-to-date with new firefighting techniques and technologies.
  1. Community Engagement:
    • Educate the community about fire prevention and safety measures.
    • Participate in community outreach programs and events.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Firefighter I and II certifications from an accredited firefighting academy.
  • Valid Michigan driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • EMT-Basic certification (preferred).
  • Pass Pre-employment background screening
  • Ability to pass physical fitness and medical exams.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Willingness to work in high-stress and physically demanding situations.
